Thanks for sharing this, Frances. I do not belong to an organized religion, but this is encouraging. I hope this is the beginning of healing, tolerance, acceptance...understanding we are all global "brothers and sisters."
I totally agree. I'm a big fan of interfaith dialogue (and dialogue between the religious and non-religious). We need to focus on what unites us, not what divides us.
"As Muslims, we say to Christians that we are not against them and that Islam is not against them—so long as they do not wage war against Muslims on account of their religion, oppress them and drive them out of their homes … Our very eternal souls are all at stake if we fail to sincerely make every effort to make peace"
I managed to track down this letter (the link doesn't work anymore) but I only got half the article (I think). The main point seems to be the unprecedented unity achieved by getting so many Muslim leaders from different sects & countries together. What I would like to see is more of that sentiment trickling down to grass roots because in case anyone hadn't noticed Christians aren't driving Muslims out of their homes (unless of course you think America v Iraq is Christian v Muslim), unlike Indonesia & many other places where Christians are driven out.
Remember in 2006 the pope prayed in a mosque in Istanbul. Now that's what I call unprecedented! If that's not an olive branch what is?
The sooner the muslim leaders can get the message to the faithful that Christians are their friends the better for everyone.
Great thread, We need unity against evil. we know we have many so called political leader who publish wrong image of islam in west. But I hope peoples use mind and see truth.
